About Lighting Impact Assessments
OBS Lighting provides professional Lighting Impact Assessments (LIAs) to support planning applications and development proposals across the UK.
We assess the potential effects of artificial lighting on the surrounding environment, including neighbouring properties, ecological receptors, landscape character and the night-time environment.
Our assessments consider light spill, glare, obtrusive light and other potential effects, providing clear technical recommendations and mitigation measures to support a considered and compliant lighting strategy.
When is a Lighting Assessment required?
A Lighting Impact Assessment may be required where proposed external lighting has the potential to affect neighbouring properties, ecological habitats, protected species, heritage assets or other environmentally sensitive locations.
An LIA may be specifically requested by a Local Planning Authority or prepared proactively to support a planning application and demonstrate that potential lighting effects have been appropriately considered.
